History
Marton P.S. derives its name from Marton in Yorkshire, England, the birthplace of Captain James Cook. Construction of the school began in August 1971 and the buildings were occupied in June 1972. The Governor of NSW, Sir Roden Cutler, officially opened Marton Public School on the 18th August, 1973. (Pictured above) In 1973 there were seven staff with an enrolment of 225 children. The school enrolment continued to grow and numbers peaked in 1982 with 32 classes. As the population grew older the enrolment numbers began to fall. Enrolment numbers have been steady for the past several years with 14 classes. The school uniform was chosen buy the Parents and Citizens' Association. The brown and gold colours were chosen to reflect the natural bushland around the school. The emblem (above right) depicts 'Marton' under the Southern Cross, with Boronia on the left and Banksia on the right, two of the wildflowers found in the area around the school.
